City leader disagrees with schools decision
MT. JULIET – Wilson County school officials closed three Mt. Juliet elementary schools Wednesday due to power outages in the wake of an early morning tornado that hit the Lebanon Road area.
Despite a plea from Mt. Juliet City Manager Kenneth Martin, the remaining schools in Mt. Juliet resumed normal classes. W.A. Wright, West and Mt. Juliet elementary schools closed for the day.
"I understand and respect decisions, but I was really disappointed," said Martin. "I said, ‘Please, we are in what seems to be a war zone.’ It was a mess. There were propane leaks, natural gas leaks, no power and fires. I could not imagine why they all weren't closed in the Mt. Juliet area."
