Duggan lifts Lady Bears to 2OT triumph over Central

From staff reports

MT. JULIET — Julia Duggan scored all three Mt. Juliet goals, the last coming in the second overtime of the Lady Bears' 3-2 victory over Wilson Central Thursday night.

Following a scoreless halftime, Duggan scored in the 21st and 24th minutes of the second half and the winner seven minutes into the second 10-minute overtime.

Wilson Central scored in the 23rd and 31st minutes of the second half.

Shelby Brown totaled 22 saves for the Lady Bears, who improved to 7-6 for the season and 3-3 in District 9-AAA.

"She was awesome and did a great job keeping us in the game," Mt. Juliet coach Ryan Hill said of Brown. "Corrine Cheatham and Laura McDermott really stepped up for us tonight. We had three starters out with injuries and they played great in the middle on defense.

"This was one of the most intense games I've been a part of. It was back and forth in the second half with both teams matching the other's goals. It's a shame someone had to lose because both teams left it all on the field."

Wilson Central slipped to 4-4-1, 2-2.

Mt. Juliet will travel to Smyrna next Tuesday for a 5 p.m. kickoff. The Lady Bears' district finale will be next Thursday against Gallatin.
