Country music legend, local celebrity will perform at the fair

Mt. Juliet’s own Lester Ray Sears with his Tennessee Border Band and country music legend David Frizzell will entertain audiences at this year's Wilson County Fair.
Making his fair debut this year is Mt. Juliet’s own Lester Ray Sears with his Tennessee Border Band. Sears hosts the longest running bluegrass show in Wilson County and has become a staple on the regional bluegrass scene.
His weekly Friday night show at Courtney’s Restaurant on North Mt. Juliet Road is often a standing-room-only affair and the show is free with Courtney’s fine, home-cooked dinner in a family-friendly environment. Sears and his band will perform two shows on Saturday, Aug. 18 on the Back Porch Stage.
Sears’ tunes “Wish You Were Here With Me” and “Virginia” are bluegrass and roots radio staples with the latter currently under consideration as the new, official state song of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Sears was raised in Narrows, Va. and moved to Nashville in 2006. He has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry warm-up show and on Red Barn Radio.
Frizzell recently released his highly acclaimed book, “I Love You A Thousand Ways: The Lefty Frizzell Story,” a biography on the life of his iconic brother. The book was named one of the Top Country Music Books of the Year by CMT and has been nominated for an award of excellence from the Association for Recorded Sound Collections.

He is also touring in support of his song “Say Hello To Heaven” which is being used as part of a national awareness campaign for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). The Frizzell family lost David’s niece to a drunk driver in 1998 and this is David’s way of giving back. His performance at the fair will include the song, and reps from MADD will be on hand with information.
The Country Music legend is the multi-award winning singer of classic hits including "I'm Gonna Hire a Wino to Decorate Our Home" and "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma."

Frizzell is set to perform in Fiddler’s Grove on Monday, Aug. 20.
