Lady Commanders host Sale Creek in Thursday sectional

Friendship Christian's rampage toward a possible repeat state championship continued Tuesday with a pair of 3-0 wins in the Region 4-A tournament at the Bay Family Sportsplex.
The Lady Commanders swept Clay County 25-11, 25-11, 25-10 before knocking off Jackson County 25-16, 25-11, 25-14 in the final. In between, Jackson County needed four games to oust Gordonsville.
At 52-4, Friendship will face a familiar foe at 7 p.m Thursday in the sectional - Sale Creek. The Lady Commanders beat the Lady Panthers in last year's State Tournament and again less than two weeks ago in the Mid-Tenn Classic at A-Game in Franklin.
Jackson County will travel to Chattanooga to take on Region 3 champion Boyd Buchanan, whose gym is booked with a school play, leaving the site of the match unknown.
Thursday's winners will advance to next week's State Tournament in Murfreesboro.
Against Clay County, region Most Valuable Player Kaitlyn Teeter totaled 22 kills and six digs while Alex Sealy added eight kills and seven aces, Ali Burroughs seven kills and seven aces, Sam Finley five assists and four aces and Sarah Hall 29 assists.
Teeter led the Lady Commanders with 21 kills, seven digs and two aces against Jackson County while Hall had 30 assists and nine digs, Sealy seven kills and two aces, Morgan Imler seven digs and two aces and Burroughs eight kills.
Joining Teeter on the all-tournament team are Burroughs, Sealy and Hall.
Mt. Juliet outlasts 10-AAA champs, advances to sectional
DICKSON — The district champions fell out of the Region 5-AAA tournament in the first round Tuesday in what turned out to be a long night for the runners up.
Mt. Juliet took out District 10-AAA champ, and host, Dickson County 25-21, 25-27, 24-26, 25-19, 15-8 before 9-AAA champion Portland, coached by Lebanon-native Brittany Pickler, lost 3-0 to Rossview.
The Lady Bears fell to Rossview 26-24, 20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-9 in the region final.
Mt. Juliet will take a 33-8 record to the Region 10 champion, either Brentwood or Ravenwood, while the loser travels to Rossview. Both sectional matches will serve off at 7 p.m. Thursday with the winners advancing to next week's State Tournament in Murfreesboro.
Ryann Amity led the Lady Bears with 20 digs and 14 kills against Dickson County while Halle Raines racked up 39 assists, Morgan Phillips six aces and Shelby Woodard five blocks.
Against Rossview, Amity totaled 24 digs, 19 kills and five blocks while Raines finished with 46 assists and Allyson Huffman five aces.
