Commanders follow with first loss, to CPA
From staff reports
Friendship Christian beat Thursday's rain in the Wilson County Invitational by hosting Christ Presybterian, yesterday's scheduled opponent, late Wednesday night.
Beating CPA wasn't as easy as the Lions emerged with an 8-3 victory, the Commanders' first loss of the season.
After spotting Friendship a run in the top of the first inning, CPA pounced with four in the bottom of the inning and three in the third.
Michael Hawks had both Friendship hits, one of which was a double, as the Commanders struck out 15 times. Hunter Watts drew three walks for FCS, which fell to 6-1.
Friendship fared better earlier in the evening with a 3-1 win over Father Ryan.
Austin Godwin was the thorn in the Irish's side with a double, single and RBI at the plate and four hits and a walk allowed with nine strikeouts in a seven-inning complete game.
Friendship hitters overcame 10 strikeouts by Griffin Krieg to score two runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Connor Gaines and a sacrifice fly by Drew Erie.
Godwin got his RBI in his fourth-inning double and kept Ryan scoreless until the bottom of the sixth.
Friendship is scheduled to host Hendersonville at 3:30 p.m. today, weather permitting.
