Bowl for Habitat this Saturday
If you like to bowl and think deserving people should be able to afford a home, Saturday's Habitat for Humanity Bowl-a-Thon is right up your alley.
Pro Bowl West in Lebanon is hosting the event, starting at noon. Teams of five will be competing and those teams are made up of co-workers, friends, and family members. Prizes will be given for the team raising the most money, the team with the highest score, and the team with the most spirit.
For those who need a few pointers, the bowling team from Cumberland University will be on hand to provide a free bowling clinic as part of the event as well. The clinic starts at 11:45 a.m. with bowling for participants from noon to 2:30 p.m.
“Several companies are sponsoring a team of employees. Other teams are comprised of friends or family members. We appreciate Pro Bowl West supporting Habitat," said Tory Tredway, director for the Wilson Division of Habitat.
Tredway explained that because it is a fundraising event for Habitat, each team or bowler is asked to provide a donation to Habitat. Bowling “mulligans” will also be available to purchase for $5 each. Local businesses can promote their business through a "lane sponsorship."
Bob Black of Payment Express Systems is sponsoring a group of his employees.
“We enjoy being involved in events that benefit our community. My team will have a lot of fun bowling together as they help Habitat,” Black said.
So strap on your bowling shoes and head to Pro Bowl West this Saturday if you want to have fun and help.
“If possible, we’d prefer that the teams register in advance by calling our office, but there will still be some room for those who show up on Saturday,” Tredway said.
He added that the Bowl-A-Thon coincides with a new Habitat build in Lebanon.
"The new build will begin Nov. 3 at 417 Hobbs Ave. in Lebanon," Tredway said. "To help groups have to register with us and then each group is responsible for coming up with the 25 volunteers needed for each day of the build. We do have two open dates, Nov. 9 and Nov. 16, when we will need groups to come and work."
If you would like to join in the upcoming build, or for more information about the build or the Bowl-A-Thon, contact the Habitat office at 453-4539.
