Hassell named first-team All-SEC
From staff reports
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia senior Jasmine Hassell was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference in balloting of women's basketball coaches released by the league office on Tuesday.
Hassell, a 6-2 forward from Lebanon who was a two-time Miss Basketball at Wilson Central, leads Georgia and ranks among SEC leaders in scoring (15th at 12.6 points per game), rebounding (15th at 6.3 per game) and field-goal percentage (second at .532). She also paces Georgia in double-digit scoring games (20), double-figure rebound efforts (five), 20-point games (four) and double-doubles (five).
"Jas has had a great year," coach Andy Landers said. "I would have been disappointed if she had not earned first-team all-conference honors. She's had that kind of impact in the league this year. She's been tremendous offensively, defensively and in every way. She's played like a seasoned, skilled veteran."
In addition, Murfreesboro's Shacobia Barbee was named to both the SEC's All-Freshman and All-Defensive teams. Senior guard Jasmine James was named second-team All-SEC.
Georgia finished the regular season 24-5 overall and 12-4 in SEC play. The Lady Bulldogs are the No. 3 seed for this weekend's SEC Tournament at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth. On Friday night at 8:30 p.m., Georgia will face the winner of Thursday's game between No. 6 seed LSU and No. 11 seed Auburn.
