Jazz critic Nat Hentoff once observed, "Just open yourself if it reaches you. Get inside of it the way they get inside themselves as they play for you," he said. "That way you'll say, 'Hey, I gotta hear more of this.' That's the way into jazz. Once you get started, you can't stop. You always need more."
Promising to addict someone, the Glenn Martin Quintet plus One will perform tunes by Jobim, Gershwin, Miles Davis, and Monk at Lebanon's Bull & Whistle this Thursday from 6:30 until 8:30. Playing will be Glenn Martin and Roger Bissell, trombones, Hugh Bramhall, drums, Ryan Williams, guitar, Dennis Burnside, piano, and Wayne Renardson, acoustic bass.
