MJCA boys crush Carroll Academy in second half

MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet Christian's boys treated their student body to a 67-40 matinee win over Carroll Academy on Wednesday.
The Saints snapped an 8-8 first-quarter tie with a 16-11 second period to grab a 24-19 halftime lead. They blew the game open with a 27-9 third stanza for a 51-27 cushion as they improved to 2-3 for the season.
Trevor West sank four three-pointers in leading all scorers with 18 points for Mt. Juliet Christian while Zach Jones finished with 15 and Jackson Harrell nine. Gilbert Russ and Alex Graves each added eight, Nathan Green a three and Jonothan Correll, Justis Willis and James Laxton two apiece.
Joey Miller finished with 15 points and Joey Smith 12 for the Jaguars, who fell to 1-4.
Mt. Juliet Christian will travel to Columbia on Friday for an East-Middle Region matchup at Zion Christian.
McClain boys beaten at Providence Chr.
MURFREESBORO — McClain Christian's boys lost 72-61 at Providence Christian on Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs dropped to 0-5 despite 23 points and eight rebounds from Brandon Fox, 15 points and 11 caroms from Weston Rountree and 10 points from Evan Tubb.
"We played much better [Tuesday] and hopefully we can continue going in the right direction," said McClain coach Tony McLeod, whose Bulldogs will travel to Cookeville on Friday night to face Daniel 1 Academy.
