Officer cleared in shooting

MT. JULIET – A Mt. Juliet officer has returned to work after being involved in an on-duty shooting.

The officer was Keith Youmans, Mt. Juliet Police spokesperson Tyler Chandler confirmed early Sunday morning.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation detectives arrested a man apparently involved in a shooting incident with Mt. Juliet police on Friday, according to a TBI spokesperson.

Michael McNabb, 56, of Mt. Juliet, was charged with one count of aggravated assault and booked into the Wilson County Jail related to a Dec. 15 incident when he threatened suicide and pointed a gun at officers who responded to the scene, according to a TBI news release.

The release said Mt. Juliet police officers were called to McNabb's home on Stonegate Drive after a family member reported McNabb had a gun and threatened suicide.

McNabb told an officer on the telephone if police came to his home, they would be shot, according to the release. When officers arrived, McNabb appeared on the front porch with a gun and would not drop his weapon upon request. The release said an officer, later identified as Youmans, "fired two rounds hitting McNabb once in the chest."

McNabb was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries and released Friday.

Chandler said Youmans has "been cleared and has been back to work."

McNabb's bond is set at $75,000.
