Eagle reward: A $7,500 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer of a bald eagle in Hardeman County.
The eagle, which was shot in the wing, was treated at a Raptor Center but died a few days later.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is conducting an investigation and welcomes any information from the public. The TWRA will provide information about the posted award. Contact Agent Zach Green at 901-380-3577 or the TWRA Poaching Hotline, 1-800-831-1173.
In Tennessee it is against the law to capture, harm or kill an eagle, owl or hawk.
Killing an eagle is a federal as well as a state offense and carries particularly severe penalties.
Trap finale: The Cedar City Gun Club last week held its final regular trap shoot of 2012, with Richie Bolin winning a three-way shootoff to claim top honors. Bolin topped Ray Huchinsen and Rob Mathis after the all hit 48 of 50 targets in regulation.
Maisie Lannom took top honors in the Lady competition, Will Myers was High Jr. and Logan Crabtree High Sr.
During the year 140 shooters competed at the Gun Club, with Rick Omohundro posting the top average score of 94.1%
Gun show: The Great American Gun & Knife Show is set for the Wilson County Fairgrounds Dec. 29-30. Visit greatamericanpromotionsllc.com for details.
Deer harvest: With deer season winding down, the number of animals killed is off slightly from the same period last season. Through last week the TWRA had checked in 141,708 deer, almost 1,000 fewer than at that juncture last season.
The season runs through Jan. 6 but historically the harvest figures drop off drastically toward the end of the season. That means this season’s total kill likely won’t match last season’s tally of 165,741.
Aug. 25-Feb. 28: squirrel season
Sept. 14-Feb. 28: raccoon, possum season
Nov. 3-Feb. 28: rabbit, quail season
Nov. 17-Jan. 6: deer gun season
Dec.-March: winter trout stocking
Dec. 29-30: Gun & Knife Show
