Outdoors notebook

Hunter input invited: The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency invites hunters to submit advice and ideas about the 2013-14 hunting seasons.

Comments can be mailed to: Hunting Season Comments, TWRA Wildlife & Forestry Division, P.O. Box 40747, Nashville, Tn. 37204; or e-mailed to: twra.comment@tn.gov

E-mails should include “Hunting Season Comments” on the subject line.

The TWRA and the Wildlife Commission takes the comments into consideration when determining future hunting seasons, rules and regulations.

One example was the decision to move the fall turkey season from December to October; that came about in large part because of hunter suggestions.

The deadline for submitting suggestions is Feb. 25.

Outdoor shows: The Tennessee Boat and Fishing Expo runs Feb. 8-10 at the State Fairgrounds. Boats, motors, fishing tackle and other outdoor gear will be on display and for sale.

Visit exposouth.com for details.

Turkey banquet: The Cedar Roost Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will hold a banquet/fundraiser March at 5 p.m. at The Mill.

For information or tickets contact club president Jimmy Sloan at Lebanon’s Tractor Supply.

Bear harvest: The TWRA checked in 397 bears during the recently-completed season, the eighth consecutive year of big harvests, but down from last season’s record of 581 bears killed. Bears were killed in 11 different East Tennessee counties.

Trap shoot: Trent Inman broke 48 of 50 targets to win the Cedar City Gun Club’s weekly trap shoot.
