Dam meeting: The Corps of Engineers held a public meeting last week at McGavock High to explain its planned blockage of boater access below dams, and despite widespread opposition, it intends to proceed.

Most area anglers and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency oppose the measure, scheduled to go into effect in April. Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander also opposes it and there is a chance it could meet legislative opposition.

As it currently stands, however, the Corps is proceeding with plans to install cables to block boat access to the fast waters immediately below 10 dams on Corps-managed lakes, including Old Hickory, Percy Priest, Cheatham, Dale Hollow, Cordell Hull and Barkley.
