Jury charges bank to pay $7.5 million
Mar 21, 2013 7:53 pm
A Rutherford County jury awarded $3.6 million in punitive damages Thursday in a case that involved Wilson Bank & Trust. The decision added to compensatory damages awarded Wednesday, bringing the total to $7.5 million.
Murfreesboro builder and developer Ken Howell filed suit against the bank, contending forgery and fraud by former Murfreesboro branch president Stan Hayes – who is no longer with the company. The suit contended Hayes caused Howell's business to fail.
None of the allegations against Hayes, though, include theft from bank customers.
