Watertown girls wrap up 20-0 season
From staff reports
Watertown's boys didn't score in the first quarter Monday night. But the Purple Tigers pitched a shutout in the fourth and won on the road with fewer than 20 points, edging Winfree Bryant 19-16.
Earlier, the Tigerettes wrapped up a 20-0 regular season with a 37-28 triumph.
The Aviators unveiled a box-and-one on Purple Tiger point guard Seth Price, holding him scoreless. They led 8-0 following the first quarter, 10-5 at halftime and 16-11 going into the fourth.
Tyriq Love's drive from the free-throw line with two minutes left put the Purple Tigers in front for the first time 17-16. With Winfree Bryant pressing, big man Brady Swann made like pro football Hall of Famer Lynn Swann and went deep for a pass and a breakaway layup for the final points as Watertown, despite 14 missed shots from inside the paint, ended the regular season 15-5.
Love and Swann scored six points apiece for the Purple Tigers while Vonte Bates finished with four, Preston Tomlinson two and Devin High a free throw.
Xavier Brand scored six for Winfree Bryant while Gregory Elliott and D. Bryant each finished with four and Anthony Haffner two.
