Trousdale County man charged with rape

A Trousdale County man was charged last Wednesday with statutory rape of a juvenile that authorities said happened Feb. 18.

Jacob Tyler Swindle, 24, of Hartsville, was charged Aug. 29 for "unlawfully intentionally knowing or reckless engaged in sexual penetration of a person at least 13 but less than 18 years of age" according to the warrant. Lt. David Winnett made the arrest.

Bond was set at $10,000, and Swindle will appear in general sessions court on Sept. 14 for a plea hearing.

Swindle remained in the Trousdale County Jail on Tuesday evening.

"With statutory rape, sometimes they give consent and then they get mad and try to get even with them," Trousdale County Sheriff Ray Russell said. "It [rape] goes on a lot…older guys, younger women…most times we don't hear anything about it, until something happens. Most of the time it is a family member or someone close to the family. It happens everyday around here, but we can't do anything until someone makes a complaint. When it comes to little children and older adults, that's when it gets really bad."
