Saints succumb at Zion Christian

From staff reports

COLUMBIA - Mt. Juliet Christian lost to host Zion Christian 22-12 Friday night, dropping the Saints' record to 1-6 on the season in the East-Middle II Region opener for both teams.

Zion Christian took the lead near the end of the first quarter with a touchdown.

Mt. Juliet Christian answered with a score of its own in the second when Rick Van Mali tossed a 40-yard pass to Jackson Harrell, but the extra point was no good.

The Saints' other score came in the third quarter on a 4-yard run by Elliot Lee. The two-point conversion failed, leaving Mt. Juliet Christian's total at 12 points.

The Eagles tacked on touchdowns on runs in the third and fourth quarters to end the game.

"We've learned a lot about ourselves," Coach Jake Roberts said. "We have a lot to take from it to get better."

The Saints will enjoy a bye next week before Donelson Christian visits Suey Field Oct. 12 with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
