Smyrna storms past Lady Bears 8-4

From staff reports

SMYRNA — Smyrna stormed to a big halftime lead en route to an 8-4 win over Mt. Juliet on Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs scored in the ninth, 11th, 14th, 20th, 27th and 32nd minutes of the first half to bolt to a 6-1 halftime lead.

Savanah Collins countered for the Lady Bears a couple of minutes before the break.

Smyrna scored in the ninth and 10th minutes of the second half.

Julia Duggan scored three minutes into the second half, Collins in the 30th minute and Chandler Scott in the 33rd as Mt. Juliet slipped to 7-7 for the season.

Laura McDermott totaled 10 saves for the Lady Bears.

"We came out flat tonight after our two-overtime win against Wilson Central last Thursday," Mt. Juliet coach Ryan Hill said. "In the first half we made several dumb mistakes on defense that cost us. We had spurts in the second half where we played well but it was too little, too late."

The Lady Bears will wrap up their district schedule Thursday with a 6 p.m. home match against Gallatin.
