Citizens speak out on proposed square project
State Sen. Mae Beavers held a public forum with Tennessee Department of Transportation officials Friday to give city residents and business owners a chance to ask questions and air concerns about the proposed changes to the Lebanon Town Square.
It was a measure of how seriously people take the issue of the proposed changes that such a large crowd attended the meeting, held at 4 p.m. before the start of the weekend. Local officials, including Mayor Philip Craighead, were there, as well as several people who own businesses or property on the square.
The proposed plan to eliminate the center parking island on the square in favor of placing four parking quadrants in the square's four corners has sparked debate for months. Beavers said that was why she called the meeting.
