Stewart invited to Raycom College Football All-Star Classic

Cumberland tight end BJ Stewart has been invited to participate in the inaugural Raycom College Football All-Star Classic on Saturday, January 19 in Montgomery, Ala.

The game will be played at the Cramton Bowl and broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.

The Raycom College Football All-Star Classic will be a week-long event that features elite college football seniors participating in NFL-formatted practices that are open to the public. Former head coaches Jim Bates and Dan Reeves will coach the teams.

Stewart led the Bulldogs with 21 receptions for 396 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 18.9 yards per catch. The 6-foot-5, 253-pounder started all 11 contests and was voted First Team All-Mid-South Conference West Division. The Rome, Ga., native showed off his athletic ability on several occasions during the season, hurdling defenders on his way to first downs and touchdowns.

Stewart played football three seasons at Cumberland, seeing action as a defensive end in 2010 and 2011 before switching to the offensive side of the ball this past year. He compiled 70 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks, seven pass breakups and one interception during his two seasons on defense. He also scored on a 51-yard fumble recovery and run in the 2011 season finale.

Stewart came to Cumberland for wrestling, reaching the No. 1 ranking in the nation in the heavyweight division for two weeks during the 2009-10 academic year. He posted a 40-24 overall mark in two years and finished his sophomore season ranked 10th nationally.
