Veterans Day events planned for Lebanon
Oct 19, 2012 5:30 pm
Every year, Lebanon and Wilson County residents and guests turn out on Veterans Day to honor those who have served.
This year's celebration, featuring a ceremony and parade, will be no exception.
The parade will begin Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. on South Hatton Avenue, travel counterclockwise around the square and end at the Wilson County Courthouse.
A ceremony will follow the parade at 11 a.m. at the courthouse. A brief religious observance will be included during the ceremony.
The annual observance will honor all veterans and Gold Star Mothers from all wars and conflicts, as well as those who have served and are serving now.
Activities for the day will include patriotic music, recognition of service branches and veterans, a keynote speaker and a 21-gun salute.
Representatives from schools, active and reserve military branches, local emergency responders and various groups and organizations will participate in the day's events.
Additionally, Veterans Memorial 5K runners will participate as the next to last unit in the parade after their run to raise funds for the proposed new veteran’s plaza, adjacent to the courthouse.
Organizers said they encourage citizens to line the parade route and attend the ceremony to honor those who have given and are giving their lives and service daily for their country.
For more information about the parade and ceremony or to participate, call Ret. Lt. Col. Jim D. Henderson at 615-428-1671.
