Cedars to give veterans a day out
Friends of Cedars of Lebanon will give veterans from Murfreesboro’s Alvin C. York Veterans Administration Hospital a day out on Friday.
“We bring vets from the hospital in Murfreesboro for a meal and live music and a day away from the hospital,” said Herb Lovett, one of the organizers for the event, which is generally held every other month at Cedars of Lebanon.
This week’s event celebrated Veterans Day.
Generally, 20-40 veterans attend.
“They all enjoy it,” said Lovett. He said that some of the veterans cannot provide obvious reactions.
“When the music starts, though, you can see their feet start tapping,” said Lovett.
The Vets’ Day Out is often one of few opportunities for the veterans to leave the hospital, according to Lovett.
“Some of them are there for life,” said Lovett. “They’ve been there for an extended period of time, and that’s their last stop.”
Friday’s event will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Cedars of Lebanon and will feature food provided by West Hill Baptist Church and music by Uncle Hershel and Six the Hard Way Band. Special guest Roy August will perform with the band.
