Vice Lords 'elite' sentenced to life

A high-ranking member of the Vice Lords gang will spend the rest of his life in prison.

A federal judge sentenced Monique “Money” Smith, 41, of Cookeville, to life in prison plus five years on Friday in Nashville federal court.

Smith, who prosecutors said served as a “five-star elite” in the Vice Lords gang, was convicted in October of charges, including distributing crack cocaine, distributing powder cocaine, distributing marijuana, illegal possession of firearms as a felon and using a weapon to facilitate drug trafficking.
