Tigerettes top MJCA

MT. JULIET — Watertown's girls emerged with a 33-21 District 8-A triumph over Mt. Juliet Christian on Thursday.
The Lady Saints led 8-7 following the first quarter before the Tigerettes took control 21-12 by halftime. Mt. Juliet Christian trimmed the difference to 23-16 through three periods.
Mt. Juliet Christian was playing without leading scorer Sarah Worden, who went down with was feared to be a serious knee injury early in the game.
"It's a heartbreaker," Mt. Juliet Christian coach David Kitchen said of Worden. "I'm hoping and praying it's not what they think it is. They think it may be a meniscus, but they're not sure.
"I was real proud of them, how they responded. They kept their heads up."
Center Miaushia Thompson tossed in 12 points for the Tigerettes while Amanda Montgomery and Sarah Reeder each added eight and Brittnee Sells five as Watertown improved to 5-2 for the season and 3-1 in the district.
Anna Haley had eight points for Mt. Juliet Christian while Christine Humes scored six, Paige Hudson five and sister Ashley Hudson two as the Lady Saints slipped to 2-5, 1-2.
Mt. Juliet Christian has been playing without Kristen Tewmey (concussion) and Cali Beard (broken wrist). Kitchen said he expects both to return after Christmas.
Watertown will host DeKalb County at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Mt. Juliet Christian, in the midst of an 11-game homestand, will entertain Community Christian at 6 p.m. Monday.
