UMC annual Sports Screenings Day slated for May 19

University Medical Center's annual Sports Screening Day will be Saturday, May 19. Physicians affiliated with UMC and staff members reach out to area athletes to provide a complimentary sports screening. Screenings are required for athletic eligibility by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA).
The screening evaluations will be held at the UMC Outpatient Center from 7-11 a.m. Students and parents are asked to obtain a TSSAA pre-participation medical evaluation form from their school or call the UMC Sports Medicine Department at 443-6818.
Parents are encouraged to play an active role in their child's safety and health throughout the coming season and the TSSAA form with a parent signature will be required. It is important that parents take an active role in completing the pre-participation medical form for accuracy and completeness. Relevant and important information regarding each student athlete is vital to provide a valid evaluation.
"As a community organization, it is a great honor for University Medical Center to assist our area athletes and to work in partnership with our area schools," UMC Chief Executive Officer Vince Cherry said. "We feel very fortunate to be in a position to provide this special service, and are grateful to our physicians for making this event possible."
University Medical Center has offered a team approach to sports medicine since 1996. UMC affiliated physicians serve as team doctors for each school and UMC provides certified athletic trainers at all sporting events and practices for Lebanon High School, Mt. Juliet High School, Watertown High School, Wilson Central High School and Friendship Christian School.
The Wilson County Sports Council, an arm of the Lebanon/Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, will provide volunteers to help staff the event. For more information on University Medical Center Sports Screening Day please contact your school coach or the UMC Sports Medicine Department at 443-6818.
