WC wins region; 17 from county to State

MT. JULIET — Wilson Central won the Region 8 wrestling championship last Saturday and will send seven individuals to the State Tournament this week.
Mt. Juliet tied with Springfield for second place on the Golden Bears' Tommy Martin Gym mats. The Golden Bears will sent six to the State Tournament at which runs Wednesday through Friday at UT-Chattanooga's McKenzie Arena.
Friendship Christian will send three wrestlers and Lebanon one to the State.
Wilson Central senior Rocky Smith went 2-0 to win the region at 189 pounds and will face sophomore John Kilgore of Morristown West in the first round of the State. Senior Justin Bair went 2-0 to win at 171 and will face Greeneville junior Charlie Arrington.
Also from Central, sophomore Hunter Adcock went 1-1 to finish second at 119 and will face Hunters Lane sophomore Antonio Lillard. Junior C.J. Moore went 2-1 to finish second to Mt. Juliet senior Maxx Yates-Orr at 130 pounds and will face Overton junior R.J. Rayborn. Junior Adam Fleming went 2-1 to finish second at 152 and will take on Clarksville senior Adam Hebda. Senior Zach Leonard went 1-1 to take second at 160 to Smyrna's Kyle Frazier in the Best Match Award and will take on Independence's Taylor Dixon at 160. Sophomore Elijah Baird went 3-1 to capture third place at 275 and will take on Science Hill senior Ben Murray.
From Mt. Juliet, Yates-Orr went 3-0 at 130 and was named Region 8 Best Wrestler. He will face Hunters Lane junior Reggie Sullivan. Junior Steven Yates went 3-0 to win at 135 and will face Farragut junior A.J. Farinella. Senior Alix Yates-Orr went 3-0 to win 140 and will face Houston sophomore Alan Matthews.
MJ senior Vic Bogle went 3-1 to finish third at 160 and will take on West Greene senior Johnnie Kuykendall. Sophomore Evan Bohn went 2-1 and will take on Greeneville senior Spencer Jennings. Senior Cameron Ingram finished 3-1 and will face Dobyns Bennett junior Daniel Preston.
Friendship Christian junior G.L. Waynick won the 275-pound division with a 2-0 mark and will face Hunters Lane sophomore Quintin Robinson. Sophomore Jordan Chaffin was second at 215 at 3-1 and will take on Clarksville senior Steven Robinson. Sophomore Caleb Alsup went 3-1 at 125 and will take on Tullahoma senior Rene Karteron.
Lebanon freshman Trey Lattimore made it to the State based on a 1-2 record and fourth-place finish at 189. He will take on Martin Luther King senior Jessie Watkins.
Not listed on the TSSAA State bracket but who finished in the top four in the regional were Friendship's Nathan Selby, who went 2-2 at 112; Central's Dillon Herchenbach, who went 2-2 at 125; Central's Ryan Yearwood, who went 3-2 at 135; Central's D.J. Miller, who went 2-2 at 140 and Mt. Juliet's Daniel Davis, who went 2-2 at 152.
