Head coach Lynne Jordan returns just two letterwinners for the women and four for the men, with a total of nine newcomers among both squads. Sophomore Peyton Bell placed fourth in singles and Bell and senior Nathan Parrott were ninth in doubles in doubles at last year’s conference championships.
Cumberland will begin the 2017-18 schedule this week at the Green River Classic in Campbellsville, Ky.
Pikeville received five first-place votes and 95 total points for first place on the women’s side followed by Campbellsville with three first-place votes and 90 points. The University of the Cumberlands was third with two first-place votes and 80 points. Martin Methodist placed fourth (68) and Lindsey Wilson was fifth with 61 points and the remaining first-place vote.
Bethel University (51) was sixth followed by Cumberland (34), Life University (30), Tennessee Wesleyan (26), Union College (26) and Shawnee State (18).
Pikeville also led the men’s voting with six first-place votes and 96 points, with the Cumberlands (83), Martin Methodist (78) and Campbellsville (73) all picking up two first-place votes for second, third and fourth, respectively.
Lindsey Wilson (61), Bethel (51) and Union (46) followed in fifth, sixth and seventh, with Life (45), Cumberland (36), Tennessee Wesleyan (22) and Shawnee State (16) rounding out the poll.
