Davis, Bell lead bowlers at Green River

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Johnathon Davis placed seventh and Peyton Bell finished 15th individually for Cumberland bowling in the season-opening tournament this past weekend at the Green River Classic.

Davis knocked down 945 pins for his seventh-place showing, just 15 pins from second place for the senior from Nashville, Tenn. Bell collected 917 pins, only 23 from the top 10 for the sophomore from Lebanon.

Senior Chase Midgett posted 782 pins for 36th, while Jarred Bradshaw knocked down 664 for 49th. Freshman Baytley Cardwell and junior Justin Pervine bowled just two of the five games, recording 315 and 310 pins, respectively, and freshmen Matt Holmes and Nick Anderon participated in just one game, registering 156 and 138, respectively.

Seniors Taylor Wagner and Amee Pervine paced the women’s team with 759 and 749 pins, respectively, for 32nd and 33rd place, while junior Kelsey Wezel was 35th with 741 and sophomore Rickie Denson finished 37th with 718 pins. Junior Hannah Ellsworth knocked down 512 pins for 57th.

As a team Cumberland’s men placed seventh in the team competition on Saturday with 4,227 pins and collected 1,842 pins in the 12 Baker games for a total of 6,069, eighth overall. The women were ninth in the team competition with 3,479 and posted 1,773 in the Baker games for a total of 5,252, 10th overall.

Both teams will compete this weekend in Louisville, Ky., first at the Louisville Collegiate Classic on Saturday and then at the Thomas N. Burris Memorial Classic on Sunday.
