Participants will start to arrive at 6:30 a.m. with the 5K scheduled for 8 a.m. at 623 W. Main St. in Lebanon. The 5K Run-Walk, held annually, is the largest fundraiser of the year for Sherry’s Run. Registration is open at sherrysrun.org.
“It is an uplifting celebration of hope,” said Sherry’s Run marketing director Alisa Van Dyke. “The spirit of the event fills the air as thousands celebrate that special someone who has fought or is fighting cancer. On Saturday, we gather together in celebration of life, of hope and of the power to support each other. Turning something as bad as cancer into something positive that will make a difference.
“The difference is made in the lives of the cancer patients who sit in our office each week and share their story. For some, it is the ability to put food on the table for their children. For others it is being able to purchase the gas needed to get back and forth to treatments. And still for others, it means being able to stay in their home.”
Funds raised at the annual 5K Run-Walk allows Sherry’s Run to assist cancer patients 52 weeks a year with gas, groceries, utility bills, housing payments, prescription assistance, health insurance premiums, medical bills and colonoscopy assistance.
This year’s event will be in honor of Cindy Thorne and Denise Moore and in memory of Charles Tomlinson and Mackey Bentley. The grandchildren of those honored and remembered will release a balloon for the audience.
For the second year in a row to replace a balloon release, participants will be invited to sign their loved one’s name on a lime green Sherry’s Run car. Four balloons will be released with a card attached to represent all who have fought or are fighting cancer.
Silent and live auctions, educational exhibitors and family fun will surround the event. At a survivors’ tent, cancer survivors will receive special survivor T-shirts and have the opportunity to ride a trolley behind the race participants.
The mission of Sherry’s Run is through faith and love create an environment for all those affected by cancer, which provides hope, knowledge, assistance, support and compassion.
