Former Nashville police officer indicted on multiple counts of official misconduct

NASHVILLE – An investigation by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents resulted in the arrest of a former Metro Nashville police officer, after he was indicted on more than 50 counts of official misconduct.

At the request of 20th District Attorney Glenn Funk, TBI agents, with the assistance of Metro Nashville police officers, began an investigation March 13 into then-officer Jiyayi Suleyman, 29, on allegations of possible misuse of governmental records.

During the investigation, agents discovered between September 2016 and November, Suleyman used the criminal justice portal system for excessive inquiries on his days off and after hours. Suleyman resigned from his job March 30 in the midst of an internal investigation the Metro Nashville Police Department.

On April 27, a Davidson County grand jury returned indictments that charged Suleyman with 57 counts of official misconduct. He was arrested Tuesday morning and booked in at the Davidson County Jail on $75,000 bond.
