Wings Over Wilson shows big things can come in small packages

Though small in numbers, one local women’s group has made big strides in offering help within the Wilson County community.

Wings Over Wilson is a relatively new nonprofit organization, which launched in 2014. It consists of a small group of women who came together to create a faith-based organization. The women share a commitment to help others through acts of kindness and financial assistance. The group’s mission aims to show that it doesn’t take a large organization to make a difference in someone’s life.

“Women get things done,” said member Shawn Glover.

The group picks a family or individual each month with a need, ranging from anything from medical, financial or just a positive experience. The group sets out to fulfill that need.

“We wanted to do something different than the other organizations in Wilson County,” Glover said. “There are so many needs. We didn’t want to focus on just one need. So we decided that if we form this group, we could decide how those dollars were spent.”

The group completed its April fundraiser that raised more than $3,200 to help assist more needs in the Wilson County community.

Earlier this year, Wings Over Wilson gave back to a family with a young man recently diagnosed with a devastating disability and gave them a day out at a Nashville Sounds game. The group has also provided complete dental care for a single dad, as well as helped a mother with clothing. This year, Wings Over Wilson plans to assist senior citizens.

The group holds a handful of fundraisers each year, including a Bunco night, an April Bingo event and a silent auction.
