A group of third graders from Byars Dowdy Elementary School toured the museum Thursday morning led by project supervisor and Wilson County Commissioner Jerry McFarland.
“We’ve got four groups coming today,” said historian and tour guide Woody McMillin. “We’re going to send out the invitation to all the schools, not just in Wilson County, but to all the surrounding areas.”
The tour began with a recorded introduction from Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto and progressed with videos through each major American war to modern day.
There are service uniforms donated by Wilson County veterans and their descendants, as well as weapons used by soldiers from each war.
There are tons of other memorabilia from each era donated to the museum. There is even a Vietnam War-era Huey helicopter on display inside the museum.
