Mt. Juliet to honor Stars and Stripes for Memorial Day

Staff Reports • Updated May 19, 2016 at 4:30 PM

A grassy field at the corner of N. Mt. Juliet Road and E. Division Street in Mt. Juliet will be transformed into a field of 3-by-5-feet American Flags flying on 8-foot staffs with gold knobs aligned in a military grid for a tribute to the nation’s flag all in remembrance of Memorial Day.

The flag display will be available for viewing that starts with an opening ceremony May 27 at 11 a.m. and remaining on display until the closing ceremony May 30.

Each flag can be sponsored in honor or memory of one who has served or is serving or has made the ultimate sacrifice. At the end of the event, the sponsor may take the flag for personal use.

The “Honoring America’s Flag” event is free and open to the public daily. Come with the family and friends to walk among the flags and experience the spirit of America. Bring mementos to hang on sponsored flags. Cameras are welcome.

Flag may be sponsored in advance by visiting healingfield.org/mtjuliet16 or calling 615-289-7623. Flags are $30 each, and the amount can be mailed after the event for an extra $5. There are higher levels of sponsorships available for individuals or businesses, churches or organizations.

The patriotic presentation is sponsored by the Exchange Club of West Wilson County and the American Legion Tyler Cates Post 281 of Mt, Juliet.
