Verdie Jane Hudson

Funeral services for Mrs. Hudson will be Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Watertown First Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Mathis, the Rev. Tom Suiter and Roger Hudson officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Alan and Michael Lawrence, Dwayne, Daryl and David Close, Daniel Hudson, Matthew and Nathan Barnes, Brian Baskin, Jay Wingate, Greg Allison and Mitchell Lea. Honorary pallbearers will be the Fidelis Sunday school class. Interment will follow in Jones Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Hudson, age 96, of Watertown, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 30, 2017 at her residence.

She was born March 16, 1921, daughter of the late Jesse Monroe Agee and Vallie Lee Agee. Verdie was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Hudson in 2007; a great-grandson, Zachary Close; sons-in-law, Arnold Wingate, Don Lawrence; sister, Myrtle Agee; and brothers, Hobert and Roy Agee.

Verdie was a longtime faithful member of the Watertown First Baptist Church, where she taught the Fidelis Sunday school class for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother.

Verdie is survived by her children, Bettye Lawrence, of Old Hickory, Nancy Close, of Watertown, Kay Wingate, of Watertown, Doris Barnes, and her husband, Byron, of Watertown, Roger Hudson, and his wife, Karen, of Murfreesboro; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews, including Ruth Hudson Denney, of Brush Creek.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Watertown First Baptist Church Building Fund. The family wishes to thank Dr. Hardie Sorrels and his staff, Gentiva-Kindred Hospice and caregiver Linda Stephens for all their love and care.
