Wilson Central ousts Mt. Juliet in 9-AAA semis

Wilson Central advanced to the District 9-AAA finals with a 25-19, 29-31, 25-18, 25-15 win over Mt. Juliet on Tuesday at Lebanon’s Campbell Brandon Gym/Hester Gibbs Court.

The Lady Wildcats will play for the championship at 6 p.m. Thursday and also punched a ticket for next Tuesday’s Region 5-AAA tournament. Host Lebanon played in the other semifinal against LaVergne later Tuesday.

Nicole Brill notched 22 digs, seven kills, three aces and a block for Central while Emilee McDonald delivered 41 assists, 12 digs, four kills and two blocks; Hannah Potts 11 kills, seven blocks and a dig; Sydney McClure nine kills, four digs and two blocks; Kathryn Bean eight kills, two digs and two blocks; Sydney Dalton seven kills, two blocks and a dig; Hope Davidson nine digs and two aces, Hailey Hunter seven digs and three aces and Grayce Guethlein 31 digs as the Lady Wildcats climbed to 14-13 for the season.

Madison Matthews led the Lady Bears with 29 digs while Amber Ehrhart had 21 assists, Carson Van Hoven and Devon Smotherman 11 kills apiece, Keah Ellis seven blocks and Smotherman five aces as Mt. Juliet’s season ended at 17-14.

Friendship reaches district final, secures first-round region home match

NASHVILLE — Friendship Christian knocked off Nashville Christian 25-20, 25-20, 25-14 in the East Region District 2-A tournament Tuesday at Davidson Academy.

The Lady Commanders will face Goodpasture, which has finished each of the previous five seasons as state champion in its classification, at 7 p.m. Thursday for the championship at DA. But Tuesday’s win clinched a first-round East Region tournament home match for Friendship on Saturday at the Bay Family Sportsplex.

Cameron Burton led the Lady Commanders with 40 assists and six digs while Logan Seagraves supplied 16 digs, Syd McCormick 14 kills, Pryce Daniels 11 kills, Mattie Smith seven kills and Bailey Bryant five aces.
