Wrestling announces 2016-17 schedule

Cumberland wrestling coach James Hicks announced the team’s 2016-17 schedule this week, with the Phoenix playing host to four dual matches as well as the annual Cumberland Open, plus trips to the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., and the NWCA National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Cumberland will begin the season Nov. 5 at the Patriot Open in Williamsburg, Ky., before heading to the St. Andrews Duals to face St. Andrews and Newberry on Nov. 12 in Laurinburg, N.C. CU will play host to Bellarmine on Nov. 17 for the squad’s first home dual match of the year.

The following weekend the Phoenix will participate in the Lindenwood Open in St. Charles, Mo., before traveling to face Reinhardt on Nov. 22.

CU will head to Limestone in December and will take part in the Midwest Classic on Dec. 17-18 before breaking for Christmas.

The NWCA National Duals will begin the new year on Jan. 4-5 before a trip to Lindsey Wilson on Jan. 11 and then Lakeland, Fla., on Jan. 14 to take on Southeastern and Ouachita Baptist.

The Missouri Valley College Invitational will take place Jan. 20-21 and the Phoenix will play host to Truett-McConnell on Jan. 27 and the Cumberland Open on Jan. 28.

CU will take on Life and Brewton-Parker in Marietta, Ga., on Jan. 31 and ends the regular season with dual matches at Campbellsville on Feb. 3 and a home match against the University of the Cumberlands on Feb. 8.

The NAIA East Region Qualifier, which doubles as the Mid-South Conference Championships, will take place Feb. 18 in Bowling Green, Ky., and the 59th annual NAIA Championships are set for March 3-4 in Topeka, Kan.
