UPDATE: Wilson County sheriff’s detectives identified the victim in Thursday evening’s shooting near Mt. Juliet as 16-year-old Jayshawn L. Taylor, a Mt. Juliet High School student, and the suspected shooter as an unnamed 15-year-old former Mt. Juliet High School student.
All of the teenagers at the home at 244 Clearview Dr. where the apparent shooting took place knew one another. The shooting suspect initially told detectives the incident happened as a result of a home invasion.
A handgun was used in the shooting, but details weren’t released as to the caliber or where Taylor was shot.
The investigation remains open, and detectives didn’t rule out additional charges.
UPDATE: Wilson County sheriff’s detectives charged a teen boy with criminal homicide after another teen was shot and killed Thursday evening at a Mt. Juliet home.
According to Wilson County sheriff’s Lt. Scott Moore, the previously reported burglary never happened as the suspect claimed. He said the suspect and victim knew one another.
It is not yet known whether the parents of the teen suspect will be charged in the case.
Wilson County sheriff’s deputies found the body of an unidentified teen boy who died from an apparent gunshot wound after they responded Thursday evening to the 200 block of N.W. Clearview Drive near Mt. Juliet.
Deputies responded to a call about an intruder who broke into the home. The caller said they shot the intruder as the teen entered the house.
Deputies found the victim as soon as they arrived, and he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Several teens were at the house when deputies arrived, including the shooting victim, sheriff’s officials said.
