BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Top-seeded Cumberland defeated No. 5 seed Life 4-0 in the Mid-South Conference men’s soccer tournament semifinals at The Pit at Bowling Green Junior High School.
Daniel Williams, Austin Morenzoni, Martin Walsh and Kevin Pierce all scored for the Phoenix (10-4-4). Cumberland outshot the Running Eagles (8-11-1) 14-4 with a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Phoenix struck first just over a minute into the game. Martin Walsh played a cross to Williams who one touched the ball and scored far post. Morenzoni put Cumberland up 2-0 in the 17th minute on a header off a Walsh corner kick. The Phoenix outshot Life 8-2 in the first half with a 3-1 edge in shots on goal.
Walsh increased the Cumberland lead to 3-0 in the 59th minute after he stole the ball from a Life defender and finished through the goalkeeper’s legs. The Phoenix increased their lead to 4-0 in the 68th minute. Williams played a through-ball to Pierce who finished it past the Life goalkeeper.
Cumberland advanced to the MSC final against the winner of second-seeded Lindsey Wilson and No. 3 seed Campbellsville at 6:30 p.m. Friday at The Pit at Bowling Green Junior High School.
