• Upset sends Phoenix to semifinals

    BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Fifth-seeded Cumberland upset fourth-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) in three sets today at the Mid-South Conference Volleyball Tournament Quarterfinals at Bowling Green High School.

    The Phoenix swept the Patriots by the scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-23. Cumberland avenged a pair of losses against Cumberlands during the regular season.

    Masa Nalovic led the way with eight kills and chipped in with a pair of blocks. Cumberland registered eight total blocks in the match and limited the Patriots to a .071 hitting percentage.

    Sadie Edmonston had a match-high 15 assists while Sara Glassman chipped in with 14 assists. Ali Hanger tallied 18 digs in the win.

    Megan Jackson and Lily Chapman led the Patriots (22-13) with six kills apiece.

    Cumberland advanced to Friday’s semifinals against top-seeded Lindsey Wilson at noon at Bowling Green High School.
