The Chamber of Commerce is giving you a chance to bring a little Portland history to your Christmas celebrations this year with a limited edition Portland Christmas ornament.
Having a local Christmas ornament is not a new idea. Previously a local business made Christmas ornaments, but these ornaments haven’t been made in many years. There are also several cities in the area that do yearly ornaments, and the Chamber thought it would be nice to start having a yearly Christmas ornament for Portland.
Earlier this year the Chamber took to their Facebook page and asked followers what historical landmark they would like to see as a Christmas ornament. After narrowing down the options to the three most suggested locations, they sent out another survey in July to finalize which landmark would be used this year. The landmarks suggested were the water tower, the Sumner County High School and the old Depot. The old Depot had the most votes and will be featured on this year’s limited edition ornament.
The ornaments will be 3-D pewter ornaments manufactured by Howe House and a different landmark will be used each year. They will go on sale Sept. 26 at the Chamber Banquet and will cost $15. There are limited quantities so if you don’t make it to the banquet, stop by the chamber office to purchase your Portland Christmas ornament.
