Tennessee nursing homes celebrate National Nursing Home Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee’s nursing homes are planning a variety of events in honor of National Nursing Home Week, which begins Mother’s Day, May 8, and continues through May 14. Gov. Bill Haslam has also proclaimed this time Nursing Home Week in Tennessee and encouraged all Tennesseans to join in the celebration.

The 2016 National Nursing Home Week theme is “It’s a small world with a big heart,” and Tennessee Health Care Association (THCA) members have planned weeklong events for residents, staff and their communities. Theme days, cookouts and musical performances are some of the activities that will provide opportunities for publicly honoring the indomitable spirit of residents and recognizing staff who face each day with a sense of purpose and compassion.

“Each year, nursing homes nationwide take pride in celebrating Nursing Home Week with their communities,” said THCA Executive Director Jesse Samples. “It is their time to reach out and show people their facilities are places where the daily pursuit of health and happiness occurs.”

National Nursing Home Week is sponsored by THCA and the American Health Care Association (AHCA). THCA is a nonprofit organization representing long-term care facilities located throughout the state.
