Lebanon Fire Department to hold Golf for Toys Scramble

Gabe Farmer, Democrat Correspondent • Updated Jul 26, 2013 at 10:07 PM

The Lebanon Fire Department will tee off on its 10th annual Golf for Toys Scramble at Hunters Point Golf Course on Friday.

All proceeds from this event will be used to buy toys for children through Wilson County’s Christmas for All organization. With the help of donations from this event last year, firefighters were able to buy Christmas presents for more than 400 children ranging from infants to 12 year olds.

The even will mark a decade of the Lebanon Fire Department raising funds through the community golf tournament to provide Christmas presents to local children who might go without otherwise.  In past years, the tournament has garnered around 22 teams to compete in the tournament, but this year, the fire department hopes to reach its limit of 26 teams.

Lt. Brian Fountain hopes a larger presence and more publicity for the event in the city of Lebanon in coming years will lead to bigger opportunities to provide for local children.

“It would be great if we could make it an all-day tournament with teams playing in the morning and another set of teams playing in the afternoon," Fountain said. "We want to raise all we can to provide presents for children in need.”

This year’s Golf for Toys Scramble will begin with registration Friday at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m.  Beverages, as well as a meal, will be provided to teams after the tournament. Donated prizes will also be awarded to teams for longest drive, closest-to-pin contest and individual hole.

The event will also include an auction with plans for a fiddle signed by Charlie Daniels and a set of tires from Bridgestone.

In addition to the Golf for Toys Scramble, the Lebanon Fire Department accepts toy and monetary donations for Christmas for All at the stations year round.

To donate or register a team for the event, contact Chief Chris Dowell at 615-812-2972 or Fountain at 615-504-3669.
