Chili’s set to support St. Jude’s

Guests at Lebanon’s Chili’s can help support St. Jude Children’s Hospital on Monday.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the restaurant will feature games and activities including a dunking booth with local law enforcement, a “pie-the-manager-in-the-face” game and more. A local fire engine will also be on display.

J.J. Echterling, the event captain and a server at the restaurant, said that although most of the activities will be offered during the peak hours listed, the hours will really depend on demand.

“If business entails, we’ll keep the party going from open to close and keep them entertained,” said Echterling.

Employees at the South Hartmann Drive location raised about $6,500 last year, and they want to top that this year.

In fact, Echterling promised she would shave her head and donate her hair if they could raise $10,000 this year. She said if they didn’t reach the goal by Wednesday, she would simply continue growing her hair for next year.

“I actually want to shave my head,” said Echterling. “I want to provide that money to these kids.”

The goal has a personal note for Echterling. Her daughter is a five-year cancer survivor, and during some of the most difficult times, the community rallied behind her family.

“I can never find all those people to pay them back monetarily, so the least I can do is pay it forward,” said Echterling.
