Bridge work nearly done

Traffic travels north along the U.S. 231 bridge over Spring Creek just north of Carroll-Oakland School on Wednesday. Repairs to the structure are nearing completion after eight months of work. Crews have poured new concrete decks and installed new beams and pier caps. The work, as well as repairs to the U.S. 231 bridge over the Cumberland River, is ahead of schedule. When it started in December, the Tennessee Department of Transportation estimated the project would be completed in November. Workers on the scene Wednesday said they expect the Spring Creek bridge to be done by the end of the month. On the Cumberland River bridge, crews this week have removed some of the dividers narrowing the lanes. The cost for the repairs to the two bridges is $2.09 million.
