Lebanon’s Birdwell signs with Vol State baseball

Lebanon High senior Chase Birdwell signs to play baseball for Vol State, where he will be a catcher. Seated with him are parents Troy and Deanna Rogers. Standing (from left) are Vol State assistant coach Taylor Bryan, Blue Devil head coach Will Wakefield and assistants Daniel Barr and Curtis Hoppe. According to Wakefield, Birdwell underwent Tommy John surgery in November and was cleared to begin swinging the bat Tuesday. He is expected to serve as Lebanon’s designated hitter to start the season and perhaps add first base to his repertoire later while his recovery continues.
