There will be a graveside gathering of family and friends for Mrs. Snell on Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. in the Caraway Cemetery in Gladeville.
Mrs. Snell, who turned 105 April 21, 2018, died Nov. 3, 2018.
She was born on April 21, 1913 in Gladeville to Joe Pate Hubbard Sr. and Julia Hester Hubbard and was the sister of Joe Pate Hubbard Jr., Elizabeth Hester Tatum and Alice Ewing North, who all preceded her in death.
She is survived by seven nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and many beloved friends.
She was married to Leonard Euin Snell from 1948 until his death in 1991. She was a member of the Hickory Ridge Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She grew up in Gladeville but lived in Old Hickory, San Francisco and on Guam Island, before she settled in Orlando for 40 years. She moved to Lebanon when her husband died in 1991. At age 99, she moved to Hearthside at Castle Heights and in July, she moved to the Pavilion Senior Living. Her family thanks the staff at Hearthside and the Pavilion for the outstanding care.
Ruth had a wonderful life that was rich in love for her family and friends and in caring for others. She loved and took care of her two sisters until their life’s end. Ruth kept in touch with all of her family and the many friends she made throughout her life. She was a strong Christian and lived her life as such and was an inspiration to all she met. She had a good sense of humor, was adventurous and actually lived out many of her dreams. She always stayed active, mentally and physically, even learning to use a computer at 92 and riding on a Harley Davidson Motorcycle to her 100th birthday party. She loved animals, especially cats, plants and gardening. She was an avid reader throughout her life, loved and wrote poetry, and at 94, wrote “A Sketch of My Life, as I Remember It.”
Ruth was a treasure for her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
