The Summer Reading Program at the Portland Public Library has come to a very successful close. The main purpose of the program is to keep children reading throughout the summer months while they are out of school. We as a library also encourage adults to read 30 minutes a day. Congruent with encouraging reading, we reward participants with prizes as they reach reading bookmarks.
Thank you to all of our patrons who attended programs and participated in our summer reading program. It was truly amazing.
Our sincere thanks go out to the Friends of the Portland Library, Snow Bird, WSMV Channel 4, Nancy Grant, Sumner County Master Gardeners, Mr. Bond and the Science Guys, State of Tennessee Dental Sealant Program, Portland Fire Department, Portland Cable T.V., Portland Chamber of Commerce, Sumner County Health Department, The Portland Leader, The News Examiner, The Portland Sun, Charlie Myers, WQKR Radio Station, Tenchi Academy of Dance, Rachel Vanover, Animal Tales, Dave Mitchell, Theresa Allen, UT Extension Office, Dee Kimbrell, Dale Young, and all volunteers who helped.
