Front Porch Senior Living resident Lavelle Black spends her days at the assisted living facility playing cards, shooting hoops and helping prepare meals, but one thing she missed was receiving mail.

Moon Ranch Adventures provides free weekend getways for children and families battling cancer throughout the year, but on Saturday, Oct. 26 the facility is opening its doors to the community at large for a chili supper and auction at 4 p.m.

The Portland Lady Panthers soccer team lost to White House Heritage in second round district action last Tuesday to end their season with a 9-7-2 record overall. The Purple had advanced to the second round after defeating Springfield on Oct. 14.

The Portland volleyball team punched their ticket to their third straight state tournament appearance (which is in progress this week) by defeating Hume Fogg in three sets last Thursday in the TSSAA sectionals. The Lady Panthers won 25-10, 25-13, and 24-15 in straight sets to earn the victory.
