East boys fall to Ellis

Portland East boys’ basketball team was back in action last week after the Thanksgiving holiday and lost a tough game to Ellis Middle school 45-19. Ellis was able to keep the lead over the Panthers for the entire game. East was able to keep things close for most of the second quarter but Ellis would go in a 4-0 run just before the half. “We have been working really hard in practice and you can see the things we have been working on are transitioning out on the floor during the game,” Head Coach Scott Steinbrecher stated.

Ellis would come out in the second half and score the first six points that would bury the Panthers for the remainder of the game. Ellis would hold a large lead the rest of the way. “We are getting better the score does not completely reflect our team, we just have to learn to attack harder and score more points,” Steinbrecher replied.

The Panthers were lead by Duncan Smallwood with 10 points and Dawson Kennedy with 5 points. “I am very proud of this group of boys as they continue to fight every night and never stop playing for each other,” Steinbrecher commented.

“We will continue to work on things in practice daily, there is still a lot of season left to be played and these boys will continue to improve,” Steinbrecher stated.
